Reading have seen three of their Under-21 stars nominated for the PL2 Player of the Month award after winning three of their opening four fixtures.

Noel Hunt's side have returned to PL2- the top level of Under-21 football for sides with Category One academies- after a one-year hiatus and hit the ground running.

Winning their opening three matches without conceding, their only blot is a 3-0 defeat to fellow fast starters Arsenal.

Jayden Wareham, Sam Paul and Dom Ballard are all in contention to win the award, with another five youngsters on the shortlist.

Wareham, who was only on trial with the club during most of August, scored three goals in a highly successful month- earning himself a full-time contract with the Royals.

Paul was part of a defence that went over five hours without conceding, while 18-year-old Ballard netted two hattricks in his first three matches for parent club Southampton before joining Reading on loan.

Yago Alonso (Tottenham Hotspur), Jamie Donley (Tottenham Hotspur), Martial Good (Fulham), Mark O'Mahoney, (Brighton & Hove Albion), Ronnie Stutter (Chelsea) are also on the shortlist.
