Charlton failed to capitalise on Sanne Troelsgaard's red card as they drew 0-0 with Reading in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

The first half ended goalless, but a lively start to the second period saw Troelsgaard sent off for a challenge off the ball.

The Addicks controlled the game throughout but could not find the back of the net.

The visitors could have taken the lead in the 19th minute when summer signing Karin Muya got in behind before finding Melissa Johnson in the box.

However, the forward's tame shot was straight at Reading stopper Emily Orman.

Charlton's Kayleigh Green fired a powerful shot at goal that was deflected behind for a corner.

Then Lois Roche's inswinger caused chaos in the Reading penalty area before it was eventually cleared away to safety.

The game burst into life after half-time as Troelsgaard was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Kiera Skeels off the ball.

Charlton tried to capitalise immediately, but Green could not turn Muya's delightful flick towards goal.

Green went even closer moments later when her header from Rebecca McKenna's cross forced Orman into action.

Johnson delivered a superb ball into the box in the 75th minute, but nobody could get on the end of it.

Green was able to get a touch to Carla Humphrey's excellent delivery a minute later, only to see her effort go over the crossbar.

Humphrey hit the post with a left-footed shot from the penalty spot with three minutes left of normal time, but it was not to be, and the match finished goalless.
