Reading picked up their first league win in six months against Cheltenham Town, battling to a 1-0 victory.

Here are the ratings.

David Button, 6: A solid home debut from the experienced keeper, who had very little to do throughout the game despite building Robins pressure.

Amadou Mbengue, 5: Riddled with mistakes despite being the player on the starting field with the most Reading appearances. Needs to learn that there is a time and a place to do his skills and when to keep things simple.

Tyler Bindon, 6: Another comfortable display from the USA youth international. Had two heart-in-mouth moments.

Nelson Abbey, 7: Commanding performance from the starting captain, who let nobody beat him all night. Perfect on recovery runs and dictated the tempo, Abbey can command a starting spot on a regular basis.

Matthew Carson, 6: Strong first-half performance, willing to get forward and back in equal message. Was booked for a late follow-through and was taken off to avoid the risk of a sending off.

Charlie Savage, 6: Very switched on and not afraid to demand more from his teammates. Young player who knows what to do and what to expect from those around him.

Lewis Wing, 6: Tested Luke Southwood from distance and kept the ball ticking over. As an experienced League One player, the former Wycombe Wanderers favourite handled every situation comfortably.

Mamadi Camara, 6: Always prepared to take the ball and looked after it well. Lacked the sheer speed of an Azeez or Tuma, but had the footballing brain to take his opponents out with passing rather than pace

Harvey Knibbs, 5: Slightly disappointing performance from the summer signing. Pressed high and cannot fault the effort, but failed to stamp his imprint on the game.

Caylan Vickers, 6: Denied his first professional goal, the 18-year-old lit-up the game with his energy and vision.

Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, 6: Did everything expected of him bar score. Goals will come.

Substitutes

Tom McIntyre, 6: Looked incredibly nervous from the bench but did nothing wrong. Saw the remainder of the game out and looked to keep possession more so than the inexperienced teens.

Andy Yiadom, 6: A good cameo from the club captain, who won his tackles and looked to support forward where possible.

Sam Hutchinson, 6: A typical Hutch performance, going in hard on tackles and picking the simple passes. A wise head to bring on late on.

Femi Azeez, 5: Probably the least impactful addition, the winger was busy and pressed hard but had little impact forward or back.

Basil Tuma, 6: A good outlet and ran hard. Raw but a true speedster.
