Reading are 'not out of the running' for former England and Arsenal star Theo Walcott, according to reports in the national press.

The 34-year-old winger has been linked with the Royals every window for the past year and left Southampton over the summer- becoming a free agent.

Training with the club over pre-season to keep fitness, his former manager at St Mary's is now Reading boss Ruben Selles.

Asked about the 47-cap Three Lions forward in pre-season, the Arsenal legend is said to be considering his options.

According to Darren Witcoop of the Sunday Mirror, Walcott has suitors in the Championship but has not ruled out a drop to League One.

"Reading remain interested in free agent Theo Walcott," he tweeted. "He has interest from the Championship and Bournemouth have looked at a potential deal. But Walcott likes Ruben Selles and after training with the L1 club last month, Reading not completely out of running at this stage."

Born and raised locally in Newbury, his brother was a former Academy prospect.

Selles would still like up to five new signings before the window closes at the end of the month.
