Reading have been forced to alter their matchday processes after the pitch was struck down with a fungal disease.

Gray Leaf Spot first hit the club last year but was managed and phased out, however, the warm climate has seen a resurgence.

The ground staff are working to manage the situation, but the Royals host Peterborough United on the opening day of the season in just three days.

As a result, half-time entertainment will be halted and mascots will not have access to the pitch until the issues are resolved.

Access to the pitch and its fringes is currently limited to grounds staff during the week and will be extended to players and coaches on match days.

Access to the playing surface will be limited to players and referees only.

The cooler conditions and measures put in by the grounds team are expected to suppress the disease in the coming weeks.
