Reading suffered their second defeat of their pre-season campaign on Saturday, losing 2-0 to Sutton United.

Two trialists scored within three minutes for the hosts as more than 600 travelling supporters had the first opportunity to watch a team managed by new boss Ruben Selles.

A full-strength first-team for the first hour, including two trialists, an academy side more than held their own in the final 30 minutes in what will be crucial learning opportunities going forward.

A first ever visit to Gander Green Lane, forward Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan had the best chance for the Royals as he rounded the keeper in the first half- only to steer his strike wide of an open net.

Six trialists featured for Reading in total, as did debutant Harvey Knibbs after his move from Cambridge United was completed on Thursday.

Fully into pre-season match territory, Selles' side have three remaining friendles against Southampton, Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City before Peterborough United visit the SCL Stadium for the League One curtain-raiser.
