Reading are one of three clubs to have sent scouts to watch Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Callum Burton, the Sun reports.

The 26-year old has stepped in following an injury to number one Michael Cooper, keeping seven clean sheets as the Pilgrims secured a return to the Championship after more than a decade in the bottom two tiers.

A journeyman for most of his career to date, Burton has never played more than 31 times in a season.

Previously in non-league with the likes of Workington, Nuneaton Town and AFC Telford, he has been on the books with Shrewsbury Town and Hull City.

According to the Sun report, Birmingham City and Swansea City have also sent scouts to Devon to watch the shot stopper.

The former England Under-18 international has one season left on his current deal at Home Park.

Current number one, Joe Lumley, is only on loan in Berkshire and is due to return to Middlesbrough over the summer.
