During the beginning of ‘Sustainable September,’ Reading welcomed the new arrival of Flamingos Vintage to Queen Victoria Street. For everything flared, sequined, animal printed, and leather-trimmed, the trendy new store seeks to clothe Reading locals in the best of vintage style.
With six shops now open countrywide, Flamingos Vintage greets our town’s outlet as its latest prodigy. The doors opened three months prior, and business has been gathering speed ever since.
“We want to tailor our clothes to the Reading market,” a retailer at the store told The Chronicle. “We’re able to amend our stock to what people are buying here very easily. We’re already getting a lot of repeat customers which is great to see.”
Having launched the weekend before Reading festival, the store saw a surge in sales of bucket hats and patterned shirts. Now looking around the store, the stock seems to be more geared towards autumnal wear, with big fur coats and ‘Biggie Smalls’ style jumpers.
Flamingos also acts as a ‘kilo store’, where customers can buy clothes by the kg at a set price. They are also hoping to eventually include a creative space in the shop for gigs and art exhibitions.
