The hardest primary schools to get into across Berkshire have been named based on the numbers of  parents who apply for a place for their child.

Government figures have been released showing the number of applications submitted for school places in the borough in September 2023 and how many the schools took in. 

In Berkshire Alder Grove Church of England  Primary School in Wokingham was the most popular in the primary school sector, with approximately 60 first choice applications being rejected.

It is closely followed by Iqra Slough Islamic Primary School in Slough where 125 pupils applied for the 89 places.

Here is a breakdown of the most oversubscribed schools across the Berkshire boroughs.

Reading

In Reading, Wilson Primary School was the most oversubscribed school.

The school offered 60 places, but 79 first-choice applications were made, meaning it could only offer places to 75 per cent of them at the start of the academic year. 

Wilson Primary School boasts a good Ofsted rating, given to it by the education watchdog in 2022.

Oxford Road Community School was the second most popular, being put as first preference for 49 pupils, but only able to offer places to 30 of them, 61 per cent. 

West Berkshire

In West Berkshire, The Winchcombe School was the most popular in the primary school sector and has been rated good by Ofsted.

The school offered 60 places, but 86 first-choice applications were made, meaning it could only offer places to 69 per cent of them at the start of the academic year. 

Falkland Primary School was the second most popular, being put as first preference for 71 pupils, but only able to offer places to 60 of them, 84 per cent. 

Bracknell

In Bracknell, King's Academy Binfield was the most popular in the primary school sector.

The school offered 58 places, but 87 first choice applications were made, meaning it could only offer places to 67 per cent of them at the start of the academic year. 

This school holds a Good Ofsted rating, following its most recent inspection in 2022. 

Crowthorne Church of England Primary School was the second most popular, being put as first preference for 43 pupils, but only able to offer places to 30 of them, 69 per cent. 

Wokingham

In Wokingham, Alder Grove Church of England  Primary School was the most popular in the primary school sector.

The school offered 58 places, but 118 first-choice applications were made, meaning it could only offer places to 49 per cent of them at the start of the academic year. 

Alder Grove was rated good by Ofsted in 2023.

Aldryngton Primary School was the second most popular, being put as first preference for 64 pupils, but only able to offer places to 45 of them, 70 per cent. 

Windsor and Maidenhead

In Windsor and Maidenhead, Braywick Court School was the most popular primary school.

The outstanding-rated school offered 90 places, but 121 first-choice applications were made, meaning it could only offer places to 74 per cent of them at the start of the academic year. 

Braywick Court School was the second most popular, being put as first preference for 56 pupils, but only able to offer places to 30 of them, 53 per cent. 

Slough

In Slough, The Langley Academy Primary was the most popular primary school, boasting an outstanding Ofsted rating.

The school offered 90 places, but 127 first choice applications were made, meaning it could only offer places to 70 per cent of them at the start of the academic year. 

Iqra Slough Islamic Primary School was the second most popular, being put as first preference for 125 pupils, but only able to offer places to 89 of them, 71 per cent.
