Several schools have announced they will be closed today after areas of Reading have been left without water since Saturday.

UTC Reading have sent their pupils home as of 11am today (January 22).

In a statement sent out to parents, they wrote: "We are experiencing issues with our water supply at UTC Reading, and therefore have had to make the decision to close the school from break time today (11am), Monday 22nd January, 2024."

Instructions have been given to KS4 and KS5 children, with KS4 children needing parental permission before being sent home.

"A decision will be made about whether the school can be reopened by 7:00am tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd January 2024) and we will inform you by parent mail. We will also be updating information on this webpage so please check back."

Reading College has also cancelled all lessons today.

A statement on their website reads: "The college is closed due to ongoing issues with the water supply across Reading.

"Exams will still be running as scheduled."

Maiden Erlegh Reading are also closed today, stating there is an issue with Thames Water Supply.

Cranbury College has also closed due to "water supply issues".

A statement on their site reads: "Due to the water pressure/no water issue that has been ongoing throughout Reading over the weekend, our primary site will be closed to students today.

"We apologise for this inconvenience and we hope the issue will be resolved by tomorrow morning. We will update parents as early as possible. Homework will be emailed to all students affected by this closure.
