After a lengthy year of closures of many of Reading’s shops, the “death of the high street” saga continues with Broad Street Mall saying goodbye to another long-time resident.

Customers have noticed whilst browsing the stores at the central shopping centre that Sally Beauty is closing.

Sally Beauty has been a staple of Reading’s centre’s high street for nearly 10 years.

The shop is currently shut to the public and sports several large “closed” signs on a number of its windows.

This has caused some confusion as the signs do not reference that the store is actually closing for definite or perhaps just being renovated.

Through Sally’s windows, the public can see the store’s current state.

Removal of the shop’s stock doesn’t seem to have been undertaken just yet, as all items are still in their regular places.

Sally still has multiple shelves full of nail polish, lipsticks, and accessories. This has caused some to question whether the store is closed or not.

After previous confusion that Sally Beauty may have just been getting a new ‘makeover,’ its closure has now been confirmed.

Both staff from Broad Street Mall and Sally Beauty’s customer service have confirmed that the store is indeed closing for good and will not be returning to the centre of Reading.

A team member at Sally’s Beauty has been asked about the specific reason for the store’s closure, but they declined to comment.

Members of the public have been reminded that the store still has two other locations in Reading, which are in Mayfield Trading Estate and in the Loddon Vale Centre.

It seems that this news comes with Sally Beauty closing a vast number of other stores worldwide.

For the previous year, Retail Touch Points has said in a previous report: “Sally Beauty Holdings will close 350, many within the U.S., during December 2022 as the retailer continues efforts to improve its profitability.”

Famous for its brightly coloured eyeshadows, face glitter, and other extravagant forms of makeup, Sally has made a name for itself worldwide as a staple high street makeup brand.

Amid the news of the shop’s closure, a number of users have taken to Twitter to express their grievances.

One user tweeted: “Just found out my local Sally Beauty is closing forever! This is devastating, how will I look gay.”
