TWO Reading garden centres have donated trees to the Newtown community garden as part of its coronation CelebraTree community campaign.

Residents were asked to nominate a worthy group, garden, charity or hospice that has gone above and beyond, to receive the tree in honour of the King’s coronation.

Newtown Community Garden was voted in and received the royal trees from Winnersh and Playhatch garden centres, part of the British Garden Centres group.

Leslee Baron and Lisa Applin nominated the Newtown community garden for the competition. They said it is a "wonderful rewilding project" in its second year.

“Elderly people and younger members of our community come along to take part in our monthly events: making bird boxes, making bird feeders with sticks and string and making a big garden container display. It a great cause in Reading”, they said.

The campaign was designed to represent the new monarch's love of plants and the environment.
