A spectacular Halloween display has been installed by community champion Ronnie Goodberry at his Woodley home.

The 62-year-old, known for raising money for Ukrainian refugees and Reading residents during Covid, has turned his Shackleton Way garden into fang-tastic spook-fest.

Children and their families are invited to come and see the installation and donate to Children with Cancer UK.

"It makes you feel warm inside, it gives them something to do and look forward to. I mean lets face it, over the last two years they've had nothing. They couldn't go out," he said.

Ronnie began decorating his house for Halloween during the pandemic after the success of his Christmas lights.

"We were coming out of Covid and the kids wanted something to do, to give them a bit of enjoyment after the tywo years that we had, so I did one last year and that went down very well so I decided to go bigger this year."

Despite a storm blowing down the decorations on October 23, the installation is up and running at number 117 until October 31, with helpers in fancy dress collecting donations between midday and 10pm.

"I think I've outdone myself this year. We've even been given by a member of our local group a load of outfits and Halloween flags and windsocks and all sorts of spooky props for Halloween that we can give away for a donation towards the charity, which is even better."

He continued: "It's bigger, better, more interactive stuff: And next year I plan to go even bigger than that. I've already spoken to the neighbours and commandeered two gardens.

Ronnie Goodberry efforts in the community were recognised at the Pride of Reading Awards in December, where the public voted for him to win Smile of the Year.
