A nursery in Reading that’s become known for its excellence in education and care has been given a clean bill of health following a recent inspection.

Caversham Nursery School, located in Amersham Road, Caversham, was rated ‘Outstanding’ by education inspectors Ofsted back in May 2017.

That status of being an outstanding nursery has been confirmed after a recent inspection.

During the visit, inspectors found that staff have created a happy and safe learning environment for the children in their care.

The Ofsted report states: “Children’s smiling faces as they arrive each day show how much they adore attending this friendly and nurturing community.

“They are eager to begin their learning. Children receive a warm welcome from caring staff. Everyone is valued and respected.”

Leaders at the nursery were praised for their motto ‘every moment matters’, which encourages children to use their imaginations.

It was also noted that children enjoy bus trips to town, farms and chicks hatching from their eggs.

The report continued: “Children behave superbly. They feel safe and quickly learn the importance of being kind, sharing and taking turns.

“Children know that staff are there to help them if they feel sad or have any worries. Any unkind behaviour between children is dealt with in a calm and sensitive manner.

“Staff ensure that all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), thrive and succeed.

“Parents and carers rightly have very positive views about this exceptional school.”

Additionally, safeguarding  was judged as effective, with the necessary checks conducted on staff, and staff being praised for being alert to changes in child’s behaviour when they are worried or upset.

The recent inspection was focused on the nursery’s care for 3-5 year olds,  but the school’s provision for those aged 0-3 was also rated Outstanding following an inspection in April.

At that visit, inspectors observed that children are extremely ‘happy, settled and independent’, and exhibited ‘superb’ behaviour.

Celebrating the results, headteacher Joanne Budge said: “I am so proud of the amazing team who have continued to work so hard to provide a truly outstanding learning experience for the children, despite all the obstacles they have had to face.

“To be able to deliver such consistent high-quality teaching and learning is truly exceptional and to have achieved two Outstanding Ofsted judgements within the past six months is a testament to their hard work and commitment to the nursery.

“It is a wonderful moment for the team to have external recognition of the fantastic impact they have on the children.

“To quote the report ‘Children truly flourish at Caversham.’”
