Reading teen Christian Smith picked up his first podium finish in the Hel British Junior Supersport Championship at Snetterton in Norfolk.

One half of the Berkshire twin pair, with brother Kieran, even the weather struggled to put a dampener on proceedings as Christian enjoyed his best ever result.

Speaking after his day one third place finish, he beamed: "I was very nervous starting from pole after never being close to the front row ever. However I managed to get a fantastic start leading for the first couple corners until I got drafted and passed into turn four.

"Unfortunately, I struggled to stay with the top three struggling with rear grip and shredding my tyre in the process. However one of the top three made a mistake and crashed putting me into 3rd riding a lonely race whilst increasing the gap to the group behind me and I finished 3rd for my first ever British HEL Junior Supersport Podium!”

Dropping down the pack on day two, it was still a weekend Christian won't forget.

He concluded: "An absolutely amazing weekend getting my first ever career pole position, my first ever BSB Podium with a 3rd and a 5th I’m absolutely over the moon. Really happy with how everything is going and can’t wait to keep this momentum going for Oulton Park."

Twin Kieran had a less successful weekend, finishing 12th and 10th, overall commenting: “All in all, not the weekend I was hoping for. However, my weekend got better as it went on and I made some good progress throughout. Hopefully my next round at Oulton Park will be better for me. Huge thanks to all my sponsors for the continued support”.
