Reading goal machine Lucas Joao has underlined the importance of home form after a fourth straight win at the SCL Stadium against Stoke City on Sunday.

The Angola international gave the Royals a second minute lead, with help from poor goalkeeping on Jack Bonham's behalf, before regaining the hosts lead in the second half from the penalty spot.

It is the first time in over two years that the club have won four at home on the bounce, with Paul Ince's side firmly sat in the play-off picture after eight matches.

Celebrating his 29th birthday on Sunday, Joao believes it was a 'perfect' way to celebrate.

"It was amazing," ">he beamed. "A great atmosphere, a great performance from the team. It was the perfect way to celebrate my birthday with two goals, a win, and a fantastic environment for the fans.

"At home we play good football. We are at home; we have to be strong. It’s our home and everyone coming here needs to feel that it is tough to play here. We’re trying to do the best we can, putting our all on the pitch and it’s going well for us."

Boss Paul Ince commented on his performance, praising his effort levels.

"I said to him if you work hard, you get your goals. He worked really hard, last minute he’s at our box. He was outstanding and got his goals."

A clear week now until a difficult test at Watford, the Royals have just one more home match before the international break, with Sunderland making the long trip down next Wednesday.
