Reading twins Christian and Kieran Smith were "very positive" after their third race of the British Superbike Junior Supersport Championship season.

The 17-year-olds made the step up to the British Superbike Junior Supersport Championship in 2021 after a successful few years competing at club level, and both achieved better than expected results in their rookie seasons.

April and May, at Silverstone and Donnington Park, saw the opening two rounds- and it was a return to the latter for the third installment.

With Christian coming in at 12, and Kieran at seven, both finished in highly-respectable positions.

Speaking after the results, Christian commented: "Race one on Sunday was a fantastic race as I got a good start and got my head down making up a few positions into the first turn and down craners. Unfortunately I made a bit of a mistake going into the Melbourne loop undoing some of that work and loosing the group I was in, but I got my head down again and claw them back, overtaking a few before the end, finishing the race in ninth.

"In race two, due to my lap times in race one, I started in 10th. I managed to get a decent start and battled in a group for the whole race. I just struggled with grip slightly due to the very high track temperature but still managed to bring it home in 12th. Overall my best weekend so far and very happy with the progress we have been making the last few rounds so I’m looking forward to Thruxton in a couple weeks."

Kieran added: "After reflecting on my weekend overall at Donington Park with WSBK it's been very positive. In qualifying the pace was quick throughout but on my last lap I managed to go 0.5 quicker than previous doing a 1.45.4 which saw me finish in third.

"In race one, starting from the front row, I was confident but didn’t get an amazing start, I even led the race for two corners. Then around the halfway mark, another rider took my front wheel out so that was my race done.

"In race two, the grid changed so I was starting from seventh but started well and made overtakes to get on the back of the leading pack. My bike didn’t feel right after the crash so I lost the tow and had a quite lonely race. On the last lap two riders caught and passed me, but I managed to cross the line in seventh.

"Overall the weekend was very positive, showing I had the pace to run in the top 5 for the whole weekend.  I just now have to keep focused for the next round at Thruxton."

Next up for the twins is the next round of the British Superbike Junior Supersport Championship at Thruxton on August 12-14.
