Team GB Olympic diver Tom Daley will be in Reading next week as he takes on a gruelling Comic Relief challenge.

The four-time Olympic medallist is taking on a challenge called Hell of a Homecoming, which is a four-day physical mission from London to his hometown, Plymouth.

With the challenge beginning on Monday, 14 February, Mr Daley is expected in Reading overnight until Tuesday, 15 February.

Starting from Stratford Aquatic Centre, the 27-year-old will start by rowing six miles to the Tower of London.

He will cycle 60 miles to Reading and stay in the town overnight, before embarking on a 1,000 metre swim in the Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake in Caversham before cycling another 63 miles to Southampton.

On day three his journey will see him 130 miles to Bovey Castle in Dartmoor, the venue of his 2017 wedding to Dustin Lance Black.

Last, but certainly not least, he will have a 30 mile run to Plymouth to contend with, completing his four-day fundraiser in his hometown.

Speaking ahead of the official launch, Mr Daley said: “Why did I say yes?

“When I first heard about the challenge, I honestly thought it was going to be impossible.

“I can’t actually believe it is right around the corner.

“I have never done anything like this ever before.

“I have trained for the Olympics, but I’ve never done any endurance training, let alone swimming in the freezing cold water.

“It’s going to be one hell of a challenge, but hopefully we can raise lots of money for Comic Relief.”
