Reading Borough Council have announced that the first trees of the Urban Tree Fund have been planted.

Alongside partners Ethical Reading and Reading Tree Warden’s, £40,000 funding is going towards planting 48 trees across Reading over the next two years.

Planting has taken part at Victoria Recreation Ground, Great Knollys Street; near Wilson Primary School & along Chatham Street & Bedford Road in West Reading.

Each location has 10 new trees.

The new trees will all be concentrated near schools or medical centres in areas with low levels of tree cover, and in areas of Reading with high levels of deprivation.

In response to the climate crisis, the Council have also pledged to plant 300 new trees this season on top of the 48 from the Urban Tree Fund.
