A MAN who died in a collision on the Rose Kiln Lane this morning was driving a stolen car.

The 27 year-old died at the scene as police were called to the Matalan junction on the A33, by Rose Kiln Lane at 5.14am.

He had been driving a Citroen C1 which collided with the central reservation of the dual carriageway.

An off-duty paramedic arrived too late to save his life. His next of kin have been informed.

Police believe the Citroen was stolen from outside a home on Waterside Gardens earlier today.

A few minutes before the collision the Citroen was seen in Symeon Place, Caversham with two occupants.

Andrew Rose, who lives on the road, said he was woken by a car tearing into the quiet residential street.

"About 5am I heard a car come into Symeon Place and screech to a halt," he said.

"I heard it reverse before pulling out onto St Peter's Hill with lots of wheel spin.

"Obviously it either cut someone up or was racing I heard them honking all the way down into Caversham."

A 20 year-old BMW driver from London has been arrested on suspiscion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was uninjured in the crash and has been bailed.  Superintendent Bhupinder Rai, who is overseeing the investigations said: "This morning a man in his twenties sadly died as a result of road traffic collision and our thoughts are with his family.

"We are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to his death. We are concentrating our investigation at Waterside Gardens and also at Symeon Place.

"We would urge anyone who may have witnessed a Citroen being driven at those locations or anyone who has any information about this incident to contact us as a matter of urgency.

"We are particularly keen to speak to the person who had been a passenger in the vehicle between Waterside Gardens and Symeon Place as they may have information vital to this investigation."
