TEAMMATES of the Reading's Olympic medallists gathered round the screen at their hockey clubhouse to cheer on the GB ladies.

Reading Hockey Club's Kate Richardson-Walsh, her wife Helen Richardson-Walsh, and Alex Danson were at the forefront as Great Britain's women took gold at the Olympics for the first time.

Georgia Boother, ladies club captain at Sonning Lane's Reading Hockey Club was one of 50 celebrating as GB beat the Netherlands in a shuffle-off after drawing 3-3 at the end of the game.

"When the Netherlands went 3-2 up with eight minutes to go I knew we had to score soon," she said.

"We got a bit nervous but I knew if we could get to shuffles [the equivalent of a penalty shoot off] we could win.

"A lot of people were on the edge of their seats but we always believed they could win.

"They have been at the club for a long long time but Kate and Helen are going to Bloemendaal next season.

"That will be a huge loss for the club but we understand and they've done so much for the club.

"We're so proud and happy for them, having seen all the hard work they put in."

All three were members of GB's bronze medal team in 2012 and bought their medals in to the club for other people to see.

Alex's future is in doubt but the Reading based player isn't expected to register with another UK club.

Georgia said the success has already bought more people to the club with 10 women expressing an interesting since the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Tim Mann, Reading Hockey Club's chairman, said: "We are delighted on two levels.

"For the players that have been at the club and for the sport. We hope this is going to be a real game changer.

"My wife and I were at a dinner during the game but we kept away from phones and watched it recorded. We were about three hours behind.

"The team have done exactly what you want in a hockey tournament, start strong a keep improving.

"I was confident when we went to shuffles."
